ABOUT JIS ENERGY

Empowering Smarter Energy Decisions Through Data

JIS Energy is a U.S.-based energy technology company dedicated to advancing the way energy systems are designed, evaluated, and deployed. With deep roots in energy systems engineering and a mission to make complex modeling tools accessible and actionable, we develop software that empowers energy professionals to make data-driven decisions for resilient, efficient, and cost-effective infrastructure.

Our flagship platform, CogenS™, was built to solve real-world challenges in the combined heat and power (CHP) and microgrid sectors. Over the years, we have expanded CogenS into a robust suite of technoeconomic modeling tools that support the design and evaluation of cogeneration power plants, boilers, hot water heaters, chillers, and cooling towers. Each module enables side-by-side manufacturer comparisons using real building data, weather files, utility tariffs, and equipment specs to determine the best solution based on total cost of ownership, emissions, and energy performance.

Our History

Founded by systems and control engineer Jack Souweha, JIS Energy began as an engineering consultancy focused on distributed energy, CHP, and microgrid development. As project complexity and equipment choices grew, so did the need for fast, accurate, and customizable modeling tools. Jack developed the first version of CogenS to support internal project work, and it quickly evolved into a commercial-grade platform used by engineers, developers, EPC firms, and service providers across North America.

Today, our tools are trusted by energy professionals to guide procurement, validate designs, compare vendors, and support investment-grade analysis. We believe that better models lead to better decisions, and our team remains committed to simplifying energy economics for an evolving grid.

What Sets Us Apart

  • Specialized Focus: Purpose-built software for CHP, thermal systems, and hybrid energy design

  • Real-World Modeling: Accounts for outages, degradation, part-load behavior, emissions, and lifecycle economics

  • Workflow Friendly: Output formats tailored for proposals, procurement, and investment-grade reporting

  • Always Evolving: Continuous feature updates based on user feedback and industry changes

Whether you’re designing a cogeneration system for a hospital, selecting a boiler for a university campus, or evaluating vendor bids for a multi-building chiller plant, JIS Energy gives you the modeling power to move forward with confidence.
