About JIS Energy

Engineers Replacing Spreadsheets with Engineering-Grade Software

JIS Energy builds CogenS™ — a cloud-based technoeconomic analysis platform for CHP, thermal, and DER microgrid systems. Founded in Burlington, Massachusetts and headquartered in Houston, TX since 2023 — used by energy professionals across 44+ countries.

Meet the Founders

Field-engineering and financial-modeling, paired by design

CogenS™ is the product of a deliberate pairing: deep field-engineering experience across the energy stack, combined with institutional-grade financial-modeling discipline.

Inji Amin — Co-Founder & Head of Financial Modeling at JIS Energy

Co-Founder & Head of Financial Modeling

Inji Amin

Inji brings institutional-grade financial-modeling and risk-analytics discipline to CogenS™, with deep experience quantifying long-horizon financial outcomes under uncertainty.

John Hancock — Senior Actuarial Associate, US Valuation

  • Owns quarter- and year-end financial reporting, bulk calculations, and internal-control execution across multiple long-duration portfolios.
  • Leads basis-change and assumption-uncertainty analysis — quantifying how shifts in underlying assumptions move financial outcomes and capital under stress.
  • Prior assignments span Experience Analysis (long-duration risk studies) and lead financial modeler on US Pricing & Product Development.

AXA Financial — Advanced Financial Modeling Consulting

Consulting engagements focused on stochastic projection, valuation, and quantification of long-term financial risk and uncertainty across capital-intensive portfolios — the same analytical machinery that underpins defensible TEA results inside CogenS™.

Credentials

Completed all Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) exam requirements; advanced financial modeling and data analytics in GGY AXIS, SQL, R, VBA, and Excel. B.S. Actuarial Science, American University in Cairo — minors in Business Administration and Economics.

How we build

The principles behind CogenS™

Engineering rigor

We don't bury assumptions in macros. Every CogenS™ model is built on peer-reviewed standards (DOE, NREL, ASHRAE) with manufacturer performance curves. The math is auditable.

Clarity over complexity

Energy infrastructure decisions are already complex enough. The platform's job is to surface the answer — NPV, IRR, payback, lifecycle CO₂ — not to make you wade through a spreadsheet.

Real-world data

TMY weather, multi-tier utility tariffs, equipment manufacturer specs across 340+ cities. If the simulation isn't grounded in real data, the financial model is fiction.

Timeline

From CHP Selector to a full TEA platform

  1. JIS Energy founded

Started in Burlington, Massachusetts with the goal of replacing spreadsheet-driven energy feasibility studies with engineering-grade software.

  2. Relocated to Houston; CHP Selector launched

Moved the company to Houston, Texas and shipped the first commercial product — a desktop tool for combined heat and power (CHP) selection with built-in equipment vendor data, performance curves, and lifecycle cost analysis.

  3. Thermal Systems Suite

Expanded the product family to cover commercial boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and domestic hot water heaters — each with its own 8,760-hour simulation engine and multi-vendor comparison.

  4. Cloud platform — CogenS™

Migrated the entire product family from desktop to a cloud-based SaaS platform. No more MATLAB Runtime, no more installs — full TEA in your browser.

  5. DER optimization & RateAcuity

Added joint optimization of CHP + Solar + BESS + thermal energy storage in a single workflow, plus the RateAcuity live tariff add-on for US and Canada.

Global reach

Houston headquarters. Customers across 44+ countries.

CogenS™ ships with pre-loaded weather, utility tariffs, and equipment data for 340+ cities across 24 countries. Financial outputs auto-convert to 40+ currencies. Engineers from Texas to Tokyo run their feasibility studies on the same platform.
